:Mouse dredges up an elderly topic : (do you recognize my song quotes?) No, I wouldn't say that video games are a direct cause of violence, but I do think they're part of the general desensitization 1 of society. You watch seven acquaintances die, you're devestated; you hear about seven million people dieing, I don't know, in a war, you're merely a bit sorry if anything. 6. These days, thanks to the media and movies and video games, and songs and stuff, violence and (irrelated) sexuality are everywhere, and you kind of have to learn to ignore it. Plus, although sensible people wouldn't (I regularly vanquish hundreds of monsters in the dungeons, including, for some reason, hobbits,(Um, hobbits are usually peaceful--I'd think they'd run away if you're one of the big people, or maybe talk to you if you're playing an elf?) playing NetHack. I've even killed a couple shopkeepers...(in game), and I don't go around attacking people.) execute random violence after seeing it in a video game, I could see such things triggering an impulse in psychopaths, or persons who are really prone to paranoia, though. 1Make your own footnote!!!!!23 2With Rincewind's proof of insanity! 3I don't think I spelled it right, but I mean the de-sensitive-izing.4 4Which reminds me of the word "dekulakization"5 5Which I like for some reason(?), but isn't really related. 6A misquotation of Utopia In Power, which was quoting, I think, a pre-revolutionary intellectual.
