This isn't exactly a debate, but it's sort of a controversial subject:
(Backstory: In a recent knitting magazine(which I didn't read, and yes, I know, I'm the only knitter around here), a comment from an interview was mentioned which a lot of people took as bashing conservative crafters as not creative. So it dredged up the old election topic. So I was looking up some pictures to make my point (namely that Obama was very charismatic, more photogenic, and had a better logo))
Google Images: Obama HOPE, so you'll know what I'm talking about.
Is it just me, or does this pose remind you of some of the pictures you get when you Google-img-ing
Lenin (especially the illustration type one with the Soviet sickle-and-hammer flag in the back ground),
Stalin, (disregard young Stalin and look at the ones from lewrockwell, and great-victory1945.ru) Also, his wiki article picture
Mao,
Hitler, and Mussolini? (I thought I saw some earlier, but the only one that looks much like it now is that apparently much reprinted pic of them together, with Mussolini's saluting. And please disregard the photoshopped picture with Rudy Giuliani in Mussolini's place)
I'd call it a looking to the future pose.--"We see what the future holds-a great society, and anything in between it and our current state we can face with our heads up, looking toward our future goal.
Now, I'm not calling Obama a communist, or a nazi, or a fascist,(although I do think he has socialist leanings) but I wonder if this is something of a psychological/charisma thing whereby this pose has to do with a lot of persuasive power.
(And, curiously enough, google "similarities between Obama HOPE poster and Communist propaganda", and quite a few people think the same thing. Although they do seem to be far rightists.)
So, what do you think?
(and, upon looking at the inaugaration speech and the big "Citizens, do you picture the future to yourself? The streets of cities inundated with light, green branches on the threshholds, nations sisters..." speech, I still think Obama reminds me of Enjolras. I won't be voting for Obama in 2012, which will be the first time I vote, unless his policy totally changes.)
