When you are allowed to choose your own song for auditions, what song(s) do/would you choose?
-"Something Wonderful" (King and I) -"When I Look at You" (Scarlet Pimpernel) -"People Will Say We're in Love" (Oklahoma!) -I'm still looking for an up-tempo
I have never actually auditioned with any of these songs, but there songs I think I could do a good audition with. (Or at least an okay audition.)
Smiles, Luna

"Worst Pies In London." (Sweeney Todd) "Somewhere That's Green." (Little Shop of Horrors) "I Cain't Say No" (Oklahoma) "Seeing Is Believing" (Aspects of Love) "Just You Wait, Henry Higgins" (My Fair Lady) "Shy" (Once Upon A Mattress)
It's so hard for me to pick songs for girls! I love boy songs so much more.

It's so hard for me to pick songs for girls! I love boy songs so much more. True, true. I would LOVE to sing "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'." There are a couple songs I would love to use but can't: -"Home" ( Beauty and the Beast) - overdone -Fantine's Death Song ( Les Miserables) - not a solo as far as I can remember -"Poor Jud is Daid" ( Oklahoma!) - a duet between two guys I would also love to do "Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair" ( South Pacific) and "I Enjoy Being a Girl" ( Flower Drum Song), but I heard they were both overdone as well. I want to add "Wouldn't It Be Loverly" ( My Fair Lady) and "Cock-Eyed Optimist" ( South Pacific) to my list of possible songs.

If I were a boy, here are some I'd love to do:
-- Love Changes Everything (Aspects of Love) --Stars (Les Miserables) --She Was There (Scarlet Pimpernel) --Her Voice (Little Mermaid) --If I Can't Love Her (Beauty and the Beast) --And The Money Kept Rolling In-- And Out (Evita) --I Can't Recall or Until Tomorrow (A Tale of Two Cities)
Oh, I just thought of another great female song that I'm actually pretty good at: "Morning Person"-- Shrek

My school makes you use their songs for auditions...For Beauty and the Beast, the girl audition song was Home, no ifs, ands or buts about it. But if I did get to choose, I'd pick I Dreamed a Dream--(Les Miserables) A Change in me--(Beauty and the Beast) and Cock-eyed Optimist--(South Pacific) for my upbeat song. I'd love to do On my Own, since I think it's a harder song than I Dreamed a Dream, but I've heard it's overdone. --If I Can't Love Her (Beauty and the Beast) That is probably my all-time favorite Broadway solo. It's tons of fun to sing (if I transpose it to a mezzo voice part, of course, which can be a pain sometimes so I used to just give up and sing I Dreamed a Dream or On my Own instead) and the clarinet part for the show is my favorite out of Beauty and the Beast. I remember looking forward to it every rehearsal and production.

See, Remora, I don't transpose "If I Can't Love Her," because if I just sing it up the octave but in the same key, it's absolutely perfect for my range. So are most baritone songs flipped up a few octaves, which makes it kind of bittersweet for me. (Mmm, and I love Terrence Mann's version of the song. He's also my favourite Javert.)
Remora, I know you're a mezzo, but it's really interesting that the three songs you picked are the three songs that my litle sister (alto/belt) loves to use. She's totally awesome. And she actually does my favourite rendition of "I Dreamed A Dream."
But actually, "On My Own" and "I Dreamed A Dream" are both considered extremely overdone audition songs. They and "Defying Gravity," "Tomorrow," and "Think of Me" are always listed as the 'never do these songs' on audition guides. Still, they work EXTREMELY well for recitals, talent shows, and concerts!
The song that the three of us rock at the most is "A Step Too Far" from AIDA. I'm Amneris, my brother is Radames, and my sister is Aida. The roles are freakishly perfect for all of us!

Terrence Mann is my favorite Javert, too! Phillip Quast, espeically in the CSR, just makes me want to give him a menthol cough drops, particularly at the end of "Javert's Suicide". He's also my favorite Beast, although, the guy who had that part in my school's production was pretty good too and sounded almost like Terrence Mann. (Except at rehearsals, he scared me half to death because he was pretty much right behind me and I couldn't even hear him.)
Your sister sounds way cool! I'm sort of borderline alto at times--mainly when I have a cold--but I used to be soprano, so I have no idea what I'm going to end up as, since I can still sing a few soprano songs, but prefer mezzo/alto/male songs.
And I'd never heard that about I Dreamed a Dream...I was on Yahoo Answers and saw this question where a girl asked if she could sing On my Own and everyone told her to do I Dreamed a Dream instead...*must find another song*

Well, I mean, it's not like you're auditioning for Broadway or anything! Even 'overdone' songs are great for school/community theatre auditions. Heck, my last audition song was "Wouldn't It Be Loverly" from My Fair Lady, and that was very successful. (Before that, it was "Part Of Your World"-- even more overdone and also very successful.)
By the way, I'm bizarrely excited that you like Terrence Mann's voice. None of my other online Mizzie buddies can stand him!

If I were a guy, I would sing:
-"Prayer" (Pimernel) -"Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'" (Oklahoma!) -"Consider Yourself" (Oliver!)
More often, my problem is not that the song is for a guy, but that it's not a solo. My favourite songs are mostly duets, quartets, or some other number of people. -"One Day More" (Les Miz) -"If Only" (Mermaid) -"Make Believe" (Showboat)

Dude, I love Anne of Green Gables! I was Anne's understudy; it was one of my first shows. Sadly, we didn't manage to kill off the girl playing Anne for real.

I found another female song in my voice range I really like: Someone Else's Story from Chess.
EDIT: And I have officially found my perfect audition song: Out of Sight, Out of Mind from A Tale of Two Cities.
