Well said!
You're both intelligent people with strong opinions and interests, and if you could find a way to cooperate, it would be, like, well, first of all it would be absolutely terrifying for lesser mortals (ie. Edward Speelers), but it would definitely be cool.
And now for something completely different! Earlier on this thread, Zim said something about beating the 'cow' out of Broker and that it was the 'least offensive word' he could think of.
So, let's think of the least offensive words in the world!
Lily Smiley Sparkly Fluffy Jellybean cupcake Ummm... Oprah
Wow, and now my head hurts and I feel a little bit nauseated, so I should quit while I'm ahead.

Ouch... I am officially the youngest person on this site.
Well, yeah.
You know what's incredibly lewd and horrid and gunk? SHAKESPEARE! Don't believe me? Read the first scene of Romeo and Juliet. And the second. And third. If it was in plain English, that play would be banned in schools. But, the authority doesn't understand Shakespeare.... hehe.

i thought that it was supposed to be much better than it was, that was a huge let down. as Edward would say, "Dont u think romeo was a bit fickle?"

Yeah... it's 1992, not 1990.
Yes, that's right. I lied to the website folks about my age so I could make this site.
Oh... shame on me...

I rather liked Romeo and Juliet, but only because I'm a Shakespeare freak. I didn't like either of the two protagonists at all, especially Romeo. Putting this in a modern context like Aku said, he gate-crashes a party, sees a cute (underage) girl there, and starts hitting on her extremely obviously (what a lovely necklace! *popcorn*), then coerces her into kissing him after talking to him for two minutes, and voila! They get married!
Not that Juliet was any better. She strikes me as a bit whiny, at best. And guess who got to play her? Me. I wanted to be Tybalt, blaaah.
I really like Mercutio, though. He's so strange!

Yeah, Hamlet is my favourite, and I'm also very fond of Macbeth (I was First Witch, which was a great part.) I actually have a bit of an obsession with Hamlet in particular, not only because it's the basis for "The Lion King."
I also like "Midsummer's Night's Dream," and I saw that at Lake Braddock when I was about six. It was what started me off on my Shakespeare kick. So, er, thank your theatre department, I guess...
"As You Like It" seemed quite pointless to me. There was a huge random monologue about pancakes and mustard, which was kind of weird.

I didn't say I don't like Romeo and Juliet; I do. (I be a nerd.) I just said I'm surprised the schools haven't banned it.
Seriously, read the first three scenes, particularly the first one. And the third one. If it were in modern English, teachers would not let students go near it with a seven and three quarters meter stick.
Same thing with the Canterbury Tales... eep.
Why don't you like As You Like It? I rather like the first half or so. Macbeth is probably my favorite, but I don't know...

"As You Like It" is annoying because every detail had to be dissected in class. It's not an overwhelmingly fast-paced play, and analyzing it so slowly makes it boring. There are some amusing characters, but I definitely wouldn't say it's one of the bard's best works.
The reason why I like Hamlet and Macbeth so much is that they're full of PLOT!
And dude, Aku, the girl who played Maria in the version of "Sound of Music" that we saw at Lake Braddock? She was Gertrude, Hamlet's evil mom!

I had Mr. Holloway. He was fairly awesome... and he did a dead-on impersonation of Ursula from "The Little Mermaid."

Anyway I read Romeo and Juliet in the car 2 years ago while waiting for something....Cant remember....but I do remember the book....So now I hate the fact that in my honors English class that when we read it in class a bunch of the kids freak out and buy the translated addition and only read the modern English text..Or they raid sparknotes...Then when we watch scenes from the move..((We have to compare scenes from the 1968 film, the actual text and the 1996 film)) they freak out in the modern version when they draw their guns and talk about swords... CANT THEY SEE HOW CLEVER IT IS TO HAVE THE GUN'S BRAND NAMES BE SWORD OR DAGGER!! ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) >< THEN THEY THINK THE OPENING IS A FREAKING YOUTUBE VIDEO JOKE....LORDY LORDY LORDY....WHAT HAS THIS WORLD COME TO??? WHY CANT HALF THE KIDS IN MY CLASS STFU AND OBSERVE THE GENIUS OF THE MODERN TAKE OF A PLAY!! ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) O.k.. I'm done...

You'd think that the people in an honours class would actually enjoy literature, but I think most of the time, it's their parents putting them in honours so they can have a pretty college transcript. Of course, when we watched the old movie (we never watched the new modern-day one) all anyone talked about was, "ZOMG, he'z naked!!11!!1!!one!!!1!!" and "Ewww, Juliet's chest!!!1!1!!11!eleventy-one!!1!!" as though people are something they've never seen before.
Granted, half the class (the girls) were too busy salivating over Benvolio to notice...
